Other Appliances We Fix

Common Refrigerator & Freezer Problems
A fridge that stops cooling can cost you hundreds of dollars in spoiled food within a single day. Whether it’s running warm, making strange noises, leaking water onto your kitchen floor, or building up frost in the freezer, through years of experience we treat every fridge repair as urgent – because it is.
Vancouver Appliance Service Pros offer same-day appliance repair services all refrigerator types: top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side, French door, built-in, compact, and standalone freezers. Our technicians carry common fridge parts on the van – compressor start relays, evaporator fan motors, thermistors, defrost thermostats, and door gaskets – so most repairs are completed in a same day appliance repair appointment.
Fridge Not Cooling Properly
If your fridge is running isn’t cooling or your food is spoiling faster than normal, the problem is usualy either a failed evaporator fan motor (air isn’t circulating between the fridge and freezer), a malfunctioning thermistor (temperature isn’t being regulated as the board is getting bad info about what temperature is actually in either compartment), dirty condenser coils (the fridge can’t release heat efficiently and the compressor works overtime to try and cool but eventually, it can’t cool efficiently anymore), or a sealed system issue like low refrigerant due to a leak or an inefficient compressor.
We test each component systematically to identify the root cause before recommending any repair approach.
Important Note About LG Fridges: If your LG fridge has a linear compressor, it is covered by a 10 year warranty from the date of purchase. We see these compressors fail very frequently a few years into the fridge’s lifespan and have replaced hundreds of them in the last few years alone. In most cases LG will cover this under their $250 flat-rate extended warranty service. If your LG fridge isn’t starting, or is cooling poorly and you have a linear compressor model – we highly recommend you call LG to verify the warranty coverage first. In many cases, they will ship the parts to you at no cost and will dispatch an authorized service representative to perform the sealed system repair.
Freezer Icing Up or Frost Buildup
Ice forming on the back wall of your freezer or around the door usually indicates a defrost system failure. The three components to check are the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, and defrost timer (or control board on newer models). A failed defrost cycle means ice accumulates on the evaporator coils, eventually blocking airflow and causing the fridge section to warm up too.
Refrigerator Leaking Water
Water pooling under or inside your fridge (water leaks) typically comes from one of three sources: a clogged defrost drain (the most common cause – ice or debris blocks the drain tube), a leaking water inlet valve (on models with water dispensers or ice makers), or a cracked drain pan. We inspect all three and clear or replace the faulty component during a same or next day service appointment.
Fridge Making Loud or Unusual Noises
A buzzing, clicking, humming, or rattling fridge can indicate a failing compressor, a worn evaporator or condenser fan motor, a faulty start relay, or vibration from an unbalanced unit. A clicking sound that repeats every few minutes often signals a compressor struggling to start – this should be addressed quickly to avoid complete compressor failure.
Ice Maker or Water Dispenser Not Working
If your ice maker has stopped making ice or your water dispenser has a weak water flow or no flow altogether, the issue is usually one of a few things.
Most commonly, we see something like a frozen water line, a clogged water filter, a failed water inlet valve, or an ice maker module that’s not working correctly (especially on crescent style icemakers used in Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Kenmore, and Sears fridges).
In the last few years, we’ve seen some Electrolux / Frigidaire models pop up with bad dispenser boards. But these aren’t very common.
In the vast majority of cases icemaker and dispenser issues are quick, easy and relatively inexpensive to resolve – compared to buying a new fridge. So typically, they’re worthwhile to fix.
Our refrigerator repair technicians will thoroughly test water pressure, check for frozen lines, and replace any failed components.
Important Note On Samsung Fridges: Samsung fridges have a notorious icemaker failure. On RF prefix models (i.e. RF22/23/24/25/26/27/28/29/30/32/34) – there is a class action lawsuit against Samsung for icemakers that constantly freeze over. The repair process is VERY involved and can cost upwards of $700 with parts (including our $250 diagnostic / labour). In most cases you will need a new icemaker assembly, y-clip assembly, service kit, and we will need to reseal the icemaker compartment, flapper, ice bucket and auger motor block with RTV sealant. We strongly advise against trying to DIY this repair because it’s very complex and in many cases we’ve had clients call us after trying to DIY it and puncturing the icemaker evaporator coil accidentally. This kind of accident can ballon the repair cost beyond the cost of a new fridge. If you think you are dealing with this issue, we strongly recommend you contact Samsung directly to explore extended coverage under warranty.
Fridge Running Constantly
A refrigerator that never stops running not only wastes energy – usually it also means it’s struggling to maintain the set temperature.
For this type of issue the usual causes include dirty condenser coils, a failing compressor, bad inverter or control board, a faulty door gasket that’s not sealing fully and letting warm air in, or a thermostat that’s not cycling the compressor off.
If you leave this kind of issue to fester, it can lead to premature compressor failure – the most expensive fridge repair (sealed system repairs run $800 + parts).
Our appliance technicians can diagnose the cause behind this issue and many other common problems for fridges and many other types of appliances at affordable prices.

Great servicePosted on Richard Styler2026-03-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service! The technician diagnosed the problem on the first visit and ordered two potential parts - digital boards - to replace because he was unable to definitively say which one was faulty. But once the parts arrived and he returned to fix our wine fridge he determined that only one of the digital boards was actually faulty. Once that was replaced he said he would return the second part for a refund. Our fridge now is as good as new and the overall cost of repairs and parts was far less than replacing the whole wine fridge. The service was really great - they arrived on time and were very efficient. I would definitely recommend them for any appliance repair.Posted on Matt C2026-03-28Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Recent Fridge Repair in Vancouver - A Case Study
The problem: A family in the Mount Pleasant area called about their Samsung French Door RF25C5551SR/AA model refrigerator. They previously had another company out and were told it’s a sealed system issue, but they wanted a second expert opinion.
What we found: Our technician Daniel checked the temperatures and both the fridge and freezer were running a little warm by a few degrees. The technician disassembled the freezer compartment and observed a partial frost pattern on the evaporator, which meant that the compressor is running and some kind of cooling is happening. This is where most other technicians assume it’s a sealed system issue and call it a day. Daniel proceeded to investigate the mechanical compartment of the refrigerator and tested the current draw of the compressor against the specs on its model sheet and found that the compressor was drawing less power than intended. Upon checking the mainboard’s diagnostic module there were no clear errors in the LED flash, nor any indication of trouble. Following the tech sheet, he tested the resistance of the compressor windings and found them to be electrically sound. However, the voltage passed between the combined board-inverter module and the compressor was off from what the technical documentation describes.
The fix: The refrigerator needed a new inverter board, which came as a combo with the mainboard. We replaced the inverter and had the homeowner observe the unit for 24 hours. At which point, they called us to let us know the fridge was back in action and cooling well. Total cost: $250.00, plus the cost of a replacement inverter from Samsung.
The takeaway: Where most other companies would walk away from this call once they verified that the compressor runs, but there is an insignificant frost-pattern (indicating poor cooling), we have the expertise to discern real sealed system issues from far less expensive failures – and repair them accordingly. All in all, the homeowner saved well over a thousand dollars compared to a sealed system, and their refrigerator will likely serve them well for many more years to come.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Refrigerator?
The average refrigerator lasts 12–17 years depending on the type and brand. Here’s how to decide:
Repair if: The fridge is under 10 years old, the repair cost is less than half the price of a comparable new model, and it’s not a sealed system failure (refrigerant leak or compressor failure) on an older unit.
Consider replacing if: The fridge is over 12 years old with a compressor or sealed system failure, or if it has had 3+ major repairs in the past 2 years.
It’s also worth replacing if the refrigerant it uses is no longer available (i.e. Freon). All modern fridges will use either R134A or R600A refrigerants. Check your model sticker to see which one your fridge uses.
Cost context: A new mid-range refrigerator costs $1,200–$2,500 depending on type and brand. Most fridge repairs (excluding compressor) fall in the $250–$450 range. So if you have a 7-year-old fridge needing a $350 repair, that’s an easy decision and the math makes sense.

Refrigerator Repair FAQ
How quickly can you come for a fridge that's not cooling?
We treat fridge repairs as priority calls because of the risk of your food spoiling. In most cases, we offer same or next-day appointments -give us a call at (604) 265-3852 and let us know that your fridge isn’t working – we’ll get a technician to you as fast as possible.
Should I unplug my fridge before the technician arrives?
Generally, no – you should leave it running so the technician can observe the exact symptoms you’re seeing when we’re coming out for repairs or for a maintenance service appointment. In most cases a fridge that’s been unplugged for over 12 hours will need at least 12 hours to get into the correct operational cycle. Until then, many symptoms can be masked, and we will have to come back after a day or two to be able to diagnose it properly.
The exception is: if your fridge is leaking water, please turn off the water supply valve (usually behind or under the fridge) to prevent any water damage to your floors or cabinetry.
My fridge is making a clicking sound - is that serious?
A clicking sound that happens every few minutes usually means the compressor is trying to start but failing to do so.
This is usually caused by a failed compressor start relay. This is a relatively inexpensive repair ($20–$50 for the part).
But if it you leave it too long, it can damage the compressor itself, which turns a < $300 repair into one that’s well over $1,000. So if your fridge is clicking but not running properly – don’t wait too long to get it diagnosed.
Do you repair built-in and commercial refrigerators?
Yes. We service all refrigerator types including built-in units (Sub-Zero, Thermador, Gaggenau, Miele), under-counter fridges, wine coolers, and in some cases even commercial refrigeration for restaurants and businesses.
Note on commercial fridges: we repair standalone refrigerators, and freezers. If you have a walk-in cooler or a commercial refrigeration product we can not physically move or disassemble (i.e. walk in coolers, wine fridges where the compressor is in another room, etc) – your best bet is to call Key Foods for service as we may not be equipped well to handle that kind of range of commercial refrigeration products.
Can you repair a Samsung fridge ice maker?
Yes. Samsung ice maker failures are one of our most common repair calls. Issues typically involve a frozen water line, a failed ice maker module, or a faulty water inlet valve. We carry Samsung OEM parts for these repairs and have all technical documentation including the official correct repair bulletin for the multi-modal repair process on 2012-2020 French door Samsung models.
If you have a fridge with the model prefix RF made between 2012 and 2020 – please see our notes on the class action lawsuit and repair process above in the Icemaker or Water Dispenser not working section to learn more about the potential costs and recommended course of action before reaching out.
