Appliance Repair In Richmond

Richmond sits on an island, and the housing here is unlike anywhere else in Metro Vancouver. The city has gone through two major waves of development, and both create different appliance repair needs.

Along the Canada Line corridor from Brighouse and Aberdeen up through Lansdowne and West Cambie, the past 15 years have brought dense condo and townhouse developments. These newer units come with compact appliances: 24-inch Samsung fridges, Bosch condensation dryers, LG induction cooktops, and slim-profile dishwashers. They’re space-efficient, but the electronics in these newer models are more complex than what you’d find in a standard-size appliance. When error codes start flashing or a control panel stops responding, you need a technician with the right diagnostic tools and training.

South of Westminster Highway, in neighbourhoods like South Arm, Broadmoor, and along the river in Steveston, the housing is different. Lots of 1970s-80s ranch-style homes with full-size appliance suites, many of which have been through at least one or two rounds of replacement. These kitchens run the gamut: older Frigidaire fridges, newer Samsung ranges, Whirlpool dishwashers of every vintage. The common issues here are straightforward wear and tear, from compressor failures to broken dryer heating elements and dishwashers with drainage issues. The Problem: A homeowner in Steveston called about their Samsung gas range. Two of the five burners wouldn’t ignite. The igniter would click repeatedly but never catch a flame. The range was about 4 years old and used daily for heavy cooking.

The Diagnosis: Our technician arrived the same morning. Testing the igniters showed that two of the five had developed hairline cracks in the ceramic, which prevented them from generating a strong enough spark. The constant exposure to high heat and cooking splatter had degraded the ceramic faster than normal. On Samsung gas ranges of this model year, the igniters are positioned closer to the burner caps than on older designs, which exposes them to more direct heat.

The Fix: Replaced both failed igniters with genuine Samsung genuine parts. Cleaned and inspected the remaining three igniters while the range was open, two showed early signs of the same ceramic degradation, so we flagged those for the homeowner to monitor. Tested all five burners on low and high flame to confirm consistent ignition. Total repair time was about 90 minutes.

The Outcome: All burners have been lighting on the first click since. The homeowner cooks daily and was relieved to skip the $3,000+ cost of replacing the range. Two igniter replacements plus labour came in well under $400 total, covered under our standard warranty.
