Other Appliances We Fix

Common Washing Machine Problems
A broken washing machine means laundry piles up fast – especially if you’re in a household with kids. Whether your washer is leaking water onto the laundry room floor, doesn’t spin, or shows you a some sort of error code you can’t decipher, or professional washer repair technicians can diagnose and fix it correctly and afforably.
Here at Vancouver Appliance Service Pros we service all washer types: top-load agitator washers, top-load impeller (high-efficiency) washing machines, front-load units, stackable, and compact washers designed for new smaller condo apartments, and in some cases we’ll even repair portable washers too.
Our expert technicians carry a wide range of common washer parts in the van for same-day repairs.
Washer Won't Drain
If water stays in the drum after a cycle (not draining), the usual culprits can be a clogged drain pump (small foreign objects like coins, bobby pins, gunk, hair, or socks can jam the impeller), a blocked drain hose, a drain pump motor (or more commonly the impeller) that’s failed (especially on Samsung & LG models), or a lid switch / door latch issue that’s stopping the cycle before it reaches the drain phase. Our technicians will check and diagnose the full drain system and clear any debris or replace the failed component.
Washer Won't Spin
A washing machine that fills and agitates but won’t spin is usually dealing with a worn motor coupler (on top-load models especially Kenmore & Whirlpool/Maytag models), a broken drive belt, a faulty lid switch or door lock assembly, or a failed motor control board. On some Samsung and LG front-loaders, a worn rotor or stator assembly can also prevent the washer from going into spin. On Blomberg apartment-size washers it’s usually just a simple motor brush replacement.
In some rare cases, the inner drum and shaft may be bent or misaligned, or the drum bearing may be failing – causing the washer to try and spin, bang loudy, jump around and then slow down due to a knock-sensor being triggered. This is usually a very involved repair, but in most cases the problem is much simpler than that.
Washer Leaking Water
If your washer is leaking water – you’re in trouble. The average front-load washer goes through 50-90 liters of water, while a top-load washing machine can use over 150 liters in a single cycle.
In most cases water leaks can be from either the front, back, or bottom of the machine.
Leaks from the front on most front-loaders are often caused by a torn or moldy door boot gasket. In some cases, the gasket spring can get lose over time and there could be a small gap under the bottom lip of the gasket. On newer Blomberg machines, if the dispenser may also leak if you don’t remove the bleach cup when not using bleach.
Leaks coming from behind the washer typically happen because of a loose or cracked drain hose or a water supply hose / valve that’s leaking.
Water leaking out from below can point to a failing tub seal or pump gasket, a punctured drain pump (especially on older top-load Kenmore & Whirlpool washers) or in some rare cases a damaged plastic water tub.
If you have a top-load washing machine, it’s also very important that you understand the dynamics of how much water and how much clothes you’re putting in. One of the most common things we’ve seen over the years is water leaking out from the overflow in top-load washers or even being splashed around inside of the metal cabinet because people use the maximum water setting and then put in an extra-huge load of clothes. This is basic physics, and that water will get displaced, especially when we start to jolt the drum around during agitation.
No matter where your washer leak is coming from – our washer repair technicians will thoroughly diagnose your appliance and identify the exact source before recommending a repair.
Washer Vibrating or Walking Across the Floor
Any loud vibration or a washer that literally moves during the spin cycle can seem pretty scary. In reality, it’s a pretty simple issue and can be caused by worn shock absorbers or damaged / loose suspension springs. In some cases it’s an unbalanced load sensor that keeps triggering causing it to jolt around when it should be spinning smoothly, a damaged drum bearing that turns the circular spin into an oval motion, or simply improper leveling.
Please note that if your washing machine is on tile flooring – some tile is very slippery and the rigid plastic levelling feet can slide across it due to the inertia of the very fast spin. Especially after a couple of years when the circular spin starts to become a less perfect circle, the washer may want to move around or bang against things standing beside it. This can easily be fixed with rubber dampeners put on the levelling feet of the washer that help keep the unit in place.
While most people think some washer noise is normal – if your washer starts to move around or make loud noises – it’s best to get it serviced ASAP. If left alone, the extra vibration can damage the drum, spider arm (especially on Samsung & LG models), and water-bearing outer tub.
Washer Showing Error Codes
Most modern washers help point out any problems they encounter through error codes shown on the display panel.
Any error code means that some kind of problem occurred, so it’s best to not leave it be, and have a technician come check it out. Usual codes include things like drain failures, unbalanced loads, door lock issues, water supply problems, or motor/sensor faults.
Our technicians are trained to interpret error codes across all major brands and know which codes require a parts replacement versus a simple reset and tuneup.
Washer Has a Bad Smell
A persistent musty or mildew smell — especially in front-load washers — is usually caused by mold or bacteria buildup in the door gasket, detergent dispenser, or drain system. While cleaning can help temporarily, persistent odor often means the door boot gasket needs replacement. We can replace the gasket and clean the internal components to eliminate the smell completely.
If you notice any mold or mildew on the washer gasket, please use Affresh on a cleaning cycle at least monthly – otherwise mold can quickly spread into the plastic water-bearing outer drum, and at that point, there isn’t much we can do to clean it our completely.

Great servicePosted on Richard Styler2026-03-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service! The technician diagnosed the problem on the first visit and ordered two potential parts - digital boards - to replace because he was unable to definitively say which one was faulty. But once the parts arrived and he returned to fix our wine fridge he determined that only one of the digital boards was actually faulty. Once that was replaced he said he would return the second part for a refund. Our fridge now is as good as new and the overall cost of repairs and parts was far less than replacing the whole wine fridge. The service was really great - they arrived on time and were very efficient. I would definitely recommend them for any appliance repair.Posted on Matt C2026-03-28Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Recent Washing Machine Repair in Vancouver - A Case Study
The problem: A property manager in Yaletown requested that we investigate a leaking older front-load Kenmore washer (made by Whirlpool). On arrival our technician Leon ran a test cycle and saw a fairly large but sporadic leak during the washing step. The leak wasn’t continuous and seemed to start and stop periodically, especially as the drum movement ramped up due to the weight of the load the client was washing.
What we found: The rinse cycle filled without leaking, and most of the operation of the washing machine was leak-free. So where could this mystery leak come from? The technician inspected the rubber door gasket and did not find any tears. After taking off the front panel and door panel of the washing machine – he checked all hoses and connection points for leaks, as well as the drain valve and dispenser housing and all of them seemed to be leak free. There was also a slight streak of water on the cinder-block under where the lower part of the gasket sat. This meant the leak had to be coming from the rear groove of the gasket trim. With the gasket taken off, and inspected – there were still no tears or rips in the rubber. However, the ring clamp that the gasket was sitting on was a little loose. This often happens after years of heavy loads being ran in the washer, where the clamp and gasket gets pulled away because the front side is fixed to the outside of the washer, so as the drum moves around, the gasket gets yanked out of position and while it won’t usually snap off outright, it will create a little gap where water can seep through.
The fix: We replaced door bot ring clamp after ordering the exact size and fit from Whirlpool and tested the washer on all cycle steps. Total cost $250.00 + $35 for the gasket rear clamp.
The takeaway: While a torn washer door boot is one of the most common reasons for a leak in a front-load washer, there are often small nuances that can play into sporadic or intermittent leaks making them hard to pinpoint and repair. Our team has a wealth of experience thanks to many years of direct manufacturer training & relationships – we are familiar with many nuanced and complex repair solutions that many other companies have never encountered.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Washing Machine?
Average washer lifespan: 10–14 years (top-load) or 8–12 years (front-load).
Repair if: Under 7 years old with a standard component failure (pump, belt, latch, gasket). Most repairs cost $250–$450 total.
Consider replacing if: Over 10 years old with drum bearing failure (repair cost can approach $400–$600), spider arm corrosion (common on some front-loaders — the drum support corrodes and cracks), or the tub itself is cracked.
Cost context: A new mid-range washer costs $700–$1,500. A bearing repair on a 5-year-old washer at $400 total is worth it; the same repair on a 12-year-old unit usually isn’t.

Washing Machine Repair FAQ
Do you repair both top-load and front-load washers?
Yes. Our technicians are experienced and manufacturer trained to fix all washer types — top-load agitator washers, top-load impeller (High Efficiency models), front-load, stackable, and compact units.
We also service combo washer-dryer units (like LG and European Bosch, Electrolux models with a heat pump) commonly found in condos throughout Vancouver & the lower mainland.
My washer is shaking violently during spin - is it safe to use?
We recommend not running the washer until we can get out there and diagnose it.
Severe vibration or things banging around inside can damage internal components (drum, spider arm, outer tub) and in extreme cases, a washer can crack the plastic water bearing tub or disconnect a hose inside and flood your home.
Call us at (604) 265-3852 for a same-day appointment.
How do I get rid of the smell in my front-load washer?
Run a hot cycle with white vinegar or a washing machine cleaner like Affresh (you can buy it in most grocery stores), wipe the door gasket dry after every load, and leave the door and dispenser open a crack between uses.
If the smell persists after cleaning, the door boot gasket likely has mold trapped in folds that can’t be reached – replacement is the permanent fix in most cases.
Can you install a new washing machine?
Yes. We provide professional washer and dryer installation. We’ll connect the water supply lines, drain hose, venting, and stack and level the unit correctly.
We don’t usually offer takeway for the old unit and we recommend that you coordinate this with the delivery company ahead of time as most of them will take the old washer & dryer away while delivering the new ones.
If you need your washer (and dryer) installed, please don’t hesitate to call us at 604-265-3852 for a personalized quote.
My washer won't drain and is full of water - what should I do?
First, please don’t open the door on a front-loader if it still has water inside. The water will leak and cause a flood. We’ve seen quite a few customers that attempt this only to discover it’s not just a few cups of water but many liters of water that will leak out.
Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked. And listen to see if the drain pump is even trying to run. If your drain pump is running but no water is draining, very likely it’s either clogged or the drain hose may be kinked or blocked.
If you need help with a drainage issue, give us a call and we can usually get a technician out same-day to get your washer back in working order.
