Other Appliances We Fix

Common Washing Machine Problems

A broken washing machine means laundry piles up fast — especially in a household with kids. Whether your washer is leaking water across the laundry room floor, refusing to spin, or displaying an error code you can’t decipher, we can usually diagnose and fix it in a single visit.

We service all washer types: top-load agitator, top-load impeller (high-efficiency), front-load, stackable, and compact units designed for Vancouver condos and apartments. Our technicians carry common washer parts on the van for same-day repairs.

Washer Won't Drain

If water stays in the drum after a cycle, the most common causes are a clogged drain pump (small objects like coins, bobby pins, or socks can jam the impeller), a blocked drain hose, a failed drain pump motor, or a lid switch/door latch issue that’s interrupting the cycle before it reaches the drain phase. We inspect the full drain system and clear or replace the failed component.

Washer Won't Spin

A washer that fills and agitates but won’t spin is usually dealing with a worn motor coupler (on direct-drive models), a broken drive belt, a faulty lid switch or door lock assembly, or a failed motor control board. On some Samsung and LG front-loaders, a worn rotor assembly or stator can also prevent spinning.

Washer Leaking Water

Water leaks can come from the front, back, or bottom of the machine. Front leaks on front-loaders are often caused by a torn or moldy door boot gasket. Rear leaks typically involve a loose or cracked drain hose or water inlet hose. Bottom leaks can indicate a failing tub seal or pump gasket. We identify the exact source before recommending a repair.

Washer Vibrating or Walking Across the Floor

Excessive vibration or a washer that moves during the spin cycle can be caused by worn shock absorbers or suspension springs, an unbalanced load sensor, a damaged drum bearing, or simply improper leveling. On front-load washers, failed shock absorbers are the most common culprit — and if left unaddressed, the vibration can damage the drum, spider arm, and outer tub.

Washer Displaying Error Codes

Modern washers communicate problems through error codes on the display panel. Common codes indicate drain failures, unbalanced loads, door lock issues, water supply problems, or motor/sensor faults. Our technicians are trained to interpret error codes across all major brands and know which codes require a parts replacement versus a simple reset.

Washer Has a Bad Smell

A persistent musty or mildew smell — especially in front-load washers — is usually caused by mold or bacteria buildup in the door gasket, detergent dispenser, or drain system. While cleaning can help temporarily, persistent odor often means the door boot gasket needs replacement. We can replace the gasket and clean the internal components to eliminate the smell completely.

How Washing Machine Repair Works

Step 1: Book Your Appointment

Call (604) 265-3852 or book online. Tell us the brand, washer type (top-load or front-load), and the symptoms you’re experiencing. We’ll book a same-day or next-day appointment.

Step 2: Diagnostic & Quote

Your technician arrives with common washer parts on the van. They’ll run the washer through diagnostic modes, inspect internal components, and give you a clear diagnosis and firm quote.

Step 3: Repair Your Washing Machine

Most washer repairs take 30–75 minutes. Common same-day repairs include drain pumps, lid switches, door latches, belts, and motor couplers. We use genuine OEM parts only.

Step 4: Warranty & Follow-Up

We run a full wash cycle to confirm the repair is complete. We check for leaks, verify proper draining and spinning, and confirm everything is running properly. All repairs carry a 6-month repair warranty.

How Much Does Washing Machine Repair Cost in Vancouver?

Our pricing is flat-rate and quoted upfront – no surprises.

Common washer parts and approximate costs: drain pumps ($80–$150), door boot gaskets ($100–$200), motor couplers ($20–$40), lid switches ($30–$60), bearings + seal kits ($150–$300), control boards ($150–$350). Labour is included in the flat rate — these are part costs only.

Note on bearing replacements: Drum bearing repairs, tub jobs, and transmission replacement is one of the more labour-intensive washer repairs, often involving partial disassembly of the unit. If your washer is over 8 years old and needs bearings, we’ll give you an honest assessment on whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

Recent Washing Machine Repair in Vancouver - A Case Study

The problem: A property manager in Yaletown requested that we investigate a leaking older front-load Kenmore washer (made by Whirlpool). On arrival our technician Leon ran a test cycle and saw a fairly large but sporadic leak during the washing step. The leak wasn’t continuous and seemed to start and stop periodically, especially as the drum movement ramped up due to the weight of the load the client was washing.

What we found: The rinse cycle filled without leaking, and most of the operation of the washing machine was leak-free. So where could this mystery leak come from? The technician inspected the rubber door gasket and did not find any tears. After taking off the front panel and door panel of the washing machine – he checked all hoses and connection points for leaks, as well as the drain valve and dispenser housing and all of them seemed to be leak free. There was also a slight streak of water on the cinder-block under where the lower part of the gasket sat. This meant the leak had to be coming from the rear groove of the gasket trim. With the gasket taken off, and inspected – there were still no tears or rips in the rubber. However, the ring clamp that the gasket was sitting on was a little loose. This often happens after years of heavy loads being ran in the washer, where the clamp and gasket gets pulled away because the front side is fixed to the outside of the washer, so as the drum moves around, the gasket gets yanked out of position and while it won’t usually snap off outright, it will create a little gap where water can seep through.

The fix: We replaced door bot ring clamp after ordering the exact size and fit from Whirlpool and tested the washer on all cycle steps. Total cost $250.00 + $35 for the gasket rear clamp.

The takeaway: While a torn washer door boot is one of the most common reasons for a leak in a front-load washer, there are often small nuances that can play into sporadic or intermittent leaks making them hard to pinpoint and repair. Our team has a wealth of experience thanks to many years of direct manufacturer training & relationships – we are familiar with many nuanced and complex repair solutions that many other companies have never encountered.

Should You Repair or Replace Your Washing Machine?

Average washer lifespan: 10–14 years (top-load) or 8–12 years (front-load).

Repair if: Under 7 years old with a standard component failure (pump, belt, latch, gasket). Most repairs cost $250–$450 total.

Consider replacing if: Over 10 years old with drum bearing failure (repair cost can approach $400–$600), spider arm corrosion (common on some front-loaders — the drum support corrodes and cracks), or the tub itself is cracked.

Cost context: A new mid-range washer costs $700–$1,500. A bearing repair on a 5-year-old washer at $400 total is worth it; the same repair on a 12-year-old unit usually isn’t.

Washing Machine Repair FAQ

Do you repair both top-load and front-load washers?

Yes. Our technicians are experienced with all washer types — top-load agitator, top-load impeller (HE), front-load, stackable, and compact units. We also service combo washer-dryer units commonly found in Vancouver condos.

My washer is shaking violently during spin — is it safe to use?

We recommend not running the washer until it’s diagnosed. Severe vibration can damage internal components (drum, spider arm, outer tub) and in extreme cases, a washer can disconnect water hoses and cause flooding. Call us at (604) 265-3852 for a same-day appointment.

How do I get rid of the smell in my front-load washer?

Run a hot cycle with white vinegar or a washing machine cleaner, wipe the door gasket dry after every load, and leave the door open between uses. If the smell persists after cleaning, the door boot gasket likely has mold trapped in folds that can’t be reached — replacement is the permanent fix.

Can you install a new washing machine?

Yes. We provide professional washer installation including connecting water supply lines, drain hoses, and leveling the unit. We also disconnect and remove the old washer if needed. Call us for an installation quote.

My washer won't drain and is full of water - what should I do?

First, don’t open the door on a front-loader — the water will flood out. Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked. If that looks fine, the drain pump is likely clogged or failed. Call us and we can usually get a technician out same-day to clear the blockage and drain the unit safely.
