Lower Lonsdale has seen massive redevelopment over the past decade. The new waterfront condos and mid-rise buildings along the Esplanade and up to 3rd Street are full of compact European-brand appliances: 18-inch Bosch dishwashers, ventless Blomberg dryer combos, Samsung induction cooktops. These units are efficient and well-built, but when they break, they need a technician who knows the electronics. Recent Appliance Repair in North Vancouver — Case Study
The Problem: A couple in Upper Lonsdale called about their Bosch front-load washing machine making loud noises during the spin cycle. The machine was about 6 years old, and the noise had been getting progressively worse over the past month. They’d also noticed small rust-coloured stains on their clothes after washing.
The Diagnosis: Our technician arrived within three hours. Running a test cycle confirmed a harsh grinding sound that peaked during high-speed spin. After pulling the unit forward and removing the front panel, the source was clear: the main drum bearings had failed and the inner drum shaft seal was leaking. Water had been seeping past the seal and into the bearing housing for weeks, which explained both the noise and the rust stains on clothing. On Bosch front-loaders of this era, the bearings are a known wear item once the unit passes the 5-year mark.
The Fix: Replaced the drum bearing set and shaft seal with genuine Bosch OEM parts. This required a near-complete disassembly of the unit to access the rear of the drum, about 2.5 hours of work total. Ran three test cycles at different spin speeds to confirm the noise was completely gone and the seal was holding. No leaks.
The Outcome: The washer has been running quietly since. A bearing and seal replacement on a Bosch front-loader is labor-intensive, but the alternative was a $2,400+ replacement for a comparable unit. The repair saved the homeowner significantly, and all parts and labour are covered under our warranty.
