Eco Dry on a Samsung dryer lengthens the cycle and lowers the heat to cut energy use. It is on by default on Normal and Time Dry on the models that have it, which is why a lot of owners think their new dryer is slow when it is working exactly as designed.

What Eco Dry does
Eco Dry trades time for energy. It begins the cycle tumbling without heat, then applies lower heat than a standard cycle and runs longer to reach the same dryness. Less energy goes in overall, and the lower temperature is easier on elastic, synthetics and printed fabric.
On models that offer it, Eco Dry is enabled by default on Normal and Time Dry. You do not switch it on, you switch it off.
Turning it off
Select your cycle, then look for an Eco Dry button or an option accessed by holding a dedicated button for a few seconds. On many panels the indicator light beside it shows the current state. The setting is remembered per cycle, so turning it off on Normal does not change Time Dry.
If you cannot find it, your model may not have it - it is not on every Samsung dryer, and its absence is not a fault.
Eco Dry, or an actual problem?
This is the distinction worth making, because the two get confused constantly.
Eco Dry looks like: a longer cycle that ends with genuinely dry clothes. The drum is warm rather than hot. The time is consistent load to load.
A fault looks like: clothes still damp at the end of a full cycle, cycles that get longer month after month, a drum that is hot while the clothes stay wet, or a dryer that stops early with wet laundry.
If you are in the second column, the cause is usually one of three things, and none of them is the Eco Dry setting.
The three real causes of a slow dryer
A restricted vent. The most common by a wide margin, and the one that matters most because it is a fire risk. Lint packs the duct over years, air cannot leave, and moisture stays in the drum. If the duct run is long or has several elbows, it happens faster. Disconnect the duct at the back and run the dryer for a minute - strong, warm airflow means the duct is the problem, weak airflow means the machine is.
A blocked lint filter. Not the visible lint, which most people clear. Fabric softener sheets leave a film across the mesh that blocks airflow while looking perfectly clean. Run water over the screen: if it pools instead of passing straight through, wash it with hot water and a brush.
Dirty moisture sensors. Two metal strips inside the drum read the conductivity of the laundry to decide when to stop. The same softener film insulates them, and a coated sensor ends the cycle early with damp clothes. Clean them with rubbing alcohol.

Does Eco Dry actually save money?
It lowers the energy per cycle, yes. The saving on a single load is small; across a few hundred loads a year it is real. The trade is time, not results - the clothes come out just as dry.
Will Eco Dry damage my clothes?
The opposite. Lower heat is gentler on elastic, synthetics and prints. Heat is what degrades fabric, not tumbling time.
My Samsung dryer takes two hours even with Eco Dry off. Is that normal?
No. With Eco Dry off, a normal load should finish in roughly 40 to 60 minutes. Two hours points at a restricted vent, a filmed lint filter or a heating fault, and the vent is the first thing to check.
When to call
If the vent is clear, the filter is clean and the dryer still will not dry, book a dryer repair. We check the vent run, the heating circuit and the moisture sensors on the one visit, and the $100 diagnostic comes off your repair labour.
