Appliance Repair In White Rock

White Rock is barely five square kilometres, but the housing runs from post-war beach cottages to brand-new towers, and the appliance repair work changes street by street.

The uptown blocks along North Bluff Road, Johnston Road, and Russell Avenue are largely apartments and condos, and the kitchens and laundry closets in them are built around compact 24-inch appliances: Bosch and Blomberg dishwashers, Miele and LG stacked laundry, washer-dryer combo units, and integrated fridges. These are good machines, but they are tight installs with electronic control boards, and finding a technician who knows both the electronics and how to get the unit out of the closet without damaging the cabinetry is the hard part. The hillside streets between the uptown and the waterfront still hold a lot of 1950s to 1970s bungalows, many with the laundry in a basement and a full-size Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, or Frigidaire suite in the kitchen. The calls here are the classics: refrigerator sealed system failures, washing machine pumps and tub bearings, gas range igniters, and ovens running 40 degrees cold. The Problem: An owner in one of the East Beach buildings called about a Bosch 24-inch dishwasher that had stopped draining and was throwing an E24 error. There was standing water in the tub, and the strata had already sent a plumber who confirmed the building’s drain stack was clear.

The Diagnosis: Our technician was there the same afternoon. E24 on a Bosch is a drainage fault, which can be anything from a kinked hose to a failed pump, so the machine came out of its cabinet - carefully, because in these suites the dishwasher is tight against stone counters and finished panels. The drain hose was clear, but the pump impeller was seized with grit and a fragment of glass, and the pump winding was reading out of spec. The check valve in the sump had also stiffened, which had been letting waste water sit in the tub between cycles.

The Fix: Replaced the drain pump and sump check valve with Bosch genuine parts, cleaned the filter housing and sump, refitted the machine, and levelled it back into the opening. Ran a full cycle on-site to confirm the tub drained dry and the error stayed clear.

The Outcome: No repeat error and no leak at the door seal after the refit, which is the other thing that goes wrong when one of these units is pulled and pushed back in carelessly. Total cost: $225 labour + $165 in parts. Total time on-site: just over an hour, and all parts and labour are covered under our 6-month warranty.
