Appliance Repair In Mission

Mission climbs the hillside north of the Fraser, and the appliance repair work here changes with the elevation and the age of the housing.

Cedar Valley and the newer subdivisions above Dewdney Trunk Road are full of homes built in the last fifteen years, with Samsung, LG, and Bosch appliance suites throughout. These units lean heavily on electronic controls and smart diagnostics, and warranty-period breakdowns are common. The Mission City core, West Heights, and the streets running down to the waterfront are a different story. Much of this housing dates from the 1950s through the 1980s, and the appliances in it range from nearly new to well past their expected life. Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, GE, and Frigidaire are the brands we see most. The usual calls are refrigerator sealed system failures, washing machine pump and bearing problems, and gas range igniters that have given out. Our vans carry genuine parts for all of these, so most repairs are done in one visit.

Hatzic, Hatzic Prairie, Silverdale, Dewdney, and Deroche are acreage country. Properties out here usually have a second fridge in the garage and a standalone freezer in a shop or outbuilding, and many of them run on well water and septic. That well water puts mineral scale through dishwashers and washing machines, so our techs check for hard water damage on every diagnostic in these areas. Most appliance repair companies in Metro Vancouver won’t drive out to a Deroche acreage for a freezer that quit. We will.

Further up toward Steelhead and Stave Falls the properties get further apart again, and response times depend on our routing for the day rather than the distance. The pricing doesn’t change either way.

The Problem: A homeowner in Silverdale called about a Samsung French-door refrigerator (RF263 series) that had stopped cooling on the fridge side. The freezer was still holding, but the refrigerator compartment was sitting at room temperature and they had already thrown out a full load of groceries.

The Diagnosis: Our technician was out the next morning on the Fraser Valley route. A freezer that still works while the fridge side warms up points at airflow rather than the compressor, so the back panel came off first. The evaporator coil was buried in frost, the defrost heater read open circuit, and the defrost sensor was out of spec against Samsung’s tech sheet. The technician also found the evaporator drain tube frozen solid, which is what turns this failure into a repeat visit if it gets missed: the coil defrosts, the meltwater has nowhere to go, and the ice builds straight back up.

The Fix: Replaced the defrost heater and sensor with Samsung genuine parts, cleared and re-routed the drain tube, and manually defrosted the coil on-site rather than leaving the customer to unplug the unit for a day. Ran a full cooling cycle and confirmed the fridge compartment pulled down to 37°F before leaving.

The Outcome: The fridge has held temperature since, and the customer confirmed at our follow-up that there had been no return of the warm-fridge symptom. Total cost: $225 labour + $140 in parts. Total time on-site: 1.5 hours. A comparable replacement was over $2,600.
