About Fisher & Paykel
Fisher & Paykel started in Auckland in 1934, importing Kelvinator fridges before building their own line. They’re known for the DishDrawer and SmartDrive washer, which dropped the belt-and-pulley setup for a direct-drive motor. Haier owns the brand now, but the engineering still comes out of New Zealand.

ActiveSmart fridges use variable-speed compressors and sensors to hold temperature and humidity. When the inverter board fails, the fridge runs constantly or stops cooling. Evaporator fan motors create warm spots upstairs while the freezer stays cold. Defrost heaters burn out and frost blocks the coils. We also see door alarm faults and ice maker harvest motor issues. The DishDrawer is a different animal from a standard dishwasher. Each drawer has its own wash motor, latch, and control module. Motors lose pressure. Latches wear and the drawer won’t seal. Control modules throw codes and lock out a drawer. We also fix inlet valves, spray arm bearings, and drain pumps clogged with food debris. Disassembly is not the same as a regular tub-style unit.
SmartDrive washers use a direct-drive motor and electronic controller instead of a gearbox. Controller faults are the top call: mid-cycle stops, no spin, error codes on the display. Rotor position sensors fail and spin speed drops. We also replace lid locks, clear drain pump blockages, and fix suspension wear that shakes the machine on high spin.
