Before anything gets condemned, check where it is. Compact refrigerators carry an ambient temperature rating, and a unit rated for a normal room will struggle in an unventilated suite, a warm laundry closet, or built into cabinetry with no clearance behind it. A fridge in a 30-degree room is being asked for more than it was designed to deliver.

We check clearances and condenser airflow first. On a surprising number of these calls the appliance is fine and the installation is the fault, and moving it or opening up the cabinet is the whole fix.

Gaskets are inexpensive and available. Hinge alignment is often adjustable and costs nothing. Both are worth doing before concluding the appliance is finished.

Thermoelectric models cool by a fixed differential below room temperature rather than to an absolute setpoint - typically in the region of 15 to 20 degrees below ambient. In a warm room such a unit physically cannot reach 12 degrees, and nothing is broken.
