Maytag started in Newton, Iowa in 1893 making farm parts, then washing machines from 1907. Now part of Whirlpool Corporation, they build fridges, dishwashers, washers, dryers, and ranges aimed at heavy use.

Sitting inside Whirlpool matters when something breaks. Maytag laundry, dishwashers and ranges are built on the same platforms as Whirlpool, Amana and KitchenAid, so the drive motors, pumps and control boards are largely shared parts. Most of what a Maytag repair needs is a stocked item rather than a special order, and our technicians are on that platform most days of the week.

Maytag fridges last, but defrost timers fail on side-by-side and French door models like the MFI2570FEZ, frosting the evaporator and warming the fresh food section. The outer tub bearing carries the whole basket, and it sits behind a seal that weeps before it fails outright. Water gets into the bearing, the bearing starts to grind, and what you hear on the spin cycle is metal running dry. By the time there is a puddle, the seal has gone and the bearing usually has too.
We pull the basket to check the bearing race and the spin the shaft turns on. A bearing and seal kit plus the labour to strip the machine to the tub is real money, so on a ten-year-old washer we give you the number against the cost of replacing it and let you decide. F5 E2 on a Maytag top-loader means the machine cannot confirm the lid is locked. Nine times out of ten it is the lid lock assembly itself: the latch wears, the switch inside stops making contact, and the machine refuses to fill or spin. We also check the striker on the lid, the harness where it flexes at the hinge, and whether the lid has been forced at some point and sits proud of the latch.
It is one of the quicker repairs we do, and it lands at the bottom of the labour band with the part on the truck.
Maytag tall-tub dishwashers chop food waste with a blade assembly rather than filtering it, and that blade dulls. Once it stops cutting, soft waste packs the sump and the drain pump cannot clear it, which is when you find standing water in the bottom at the end of a cycle.
We clear the sump, check the chopper and the drain pump impeller for damage, and test the check valve so the water does not come back. The grinding noise is usually the blade hitting debris it can no longer cut. See dishwasher repair for the rest of what we handle on these.
A thump once per drum rotation is the drum rollers or the rear glides, and on MEDB and MGDB cabinets we replace them as a set because the second one is never far behind. Slow drying is a different problem, and in Vancouver it is usually airflow: lint packs into a long condo vent run faster than people expect, and damp air will not carry moisture out.
We check static pressure at the vent before blaming the machine. If the venting is clear, we look at the moisture sensor bars, which fabric softener films over until the dryer thinks the load is dry, and on gas cabinets at the valve coils, which weaken and cut the flame early. More on dryer repair.
That combination is a defrost fault, not a cooling fault. Frost builds on the evaporator until air can no longer move through it, the freezer holds on for a while because the coil is still cold, and the fresh food section warms up first. On Maytag French door models like the MFI2570FEZ the usual causes are the adaptive defrost control, the defrost heater, or the thermostat that tells the heater when to run.
We read the frost pattern on the evaporator and force a defrost cycle to see which part is not doing its job. A blocked condenser or a failed evaporator fan gives you similar symptoms for a much cheaper fix, which is why this one gets diagnosed rather than guessed. If it does turn out to be refrigerant, that is sealed system work and priced separately. Otherwise it is standard fridge repair.
F3 points at the oven temperature sensor, F1 at the control board. The sensor is a resistance probe, so it fails by drifting rather than dying, and the oven holds a temperature that is confidently wrong. We measure the probe cold and against the manufacturer resistance chart before touching a board, because swapping the board on a drifted sensor fixes nothing.
On MER and MGR ranges we also see burnt bake and broil elements, dead convection fans, and igniters that glow without opening the gas valve. Oven repair and stove and cooktop repair cover those.
Because Maytag shares Whirlpool hardware, the parts side of a repair is straightforward. Drain pumps, lid locks, shift actuators, drum rollers, thermal fuses, oven sensors and igniters are on the truck, so most Maytag jobs finish in the visit they start in. Boards and bearing kits are ordered against your model and serial, and we quote them before anything is ordered.
If your Maytag is still inside the manufacturer warranty, check that first. Warranty claims on Maytag are handled through Whirlpool, who assign the job to a servicer, and some laundry models carry a longer limited parts warranty on specific components. It works in your favour: the common failure parts are stocked locally rather than ordered from overseas, so a Maytag repair is usually a single visit. A bearing and seal job means stripping the machine to the tub, so the labour is at the top of our band and the parts are not cheap; on some units the repair approaches $400 to $600 all in, against $700 to $1,500 for a new mid-range washer. On a five-year-old machine that is worth doing. On a twelve-year-old one it usually is not, and we will say so rather than sell you the repair.
